I just added Raymond Hagewoud @hedgeforest.bsky.social to my Photo People list. Do you know his work? He's a brilliant monochrome imagemaker. I love his work. Follow him!

One last point on this m. Photo Techniques had this dedicated section, and it wasn’t called “monochrome”. This is from a 1941 edition. I luckily got a bound copy of a full year from a thrift store. Back when it was as much a science as it was an art form.
Thanks btw for your posts. I do enjoy them.
I’m 52, the only people I know using that term are 10+ years younger. Maybe it has to do with digital cameras, and the language used? Maybe it’s the schools? If we used the term Monochrome in school it was to talk about Polaroid 35mm positive slide film you processed yourself.
Monochrome, as used here, could be any single color. A mono-chrome. Cyanotypes then are monochromes. It’s a term used in offset printing not in photography. Orthochromatic & Panchromatic have specific meanings. Is monochromatic something special? And it’s pretentious. Like “lens based” photography.
