chances are I have gone through more old Life magazines than you. TMW was initially a collage/cartoon, and the (what now reads as) absurd blatant-ness of midcentury advertising--all your problems will be solved! with this product! -- was a huge jumping-off point for me.

I just looked this ad up in a database, and the only hit I got was from 1993, a profile in Editor & Publisher of a guy named Dan Perkins who was described as "fascinated by old ad images and messages".

This ad for Smith Bros. cough drops ran in LIFE, vol. 14, No. 5, p. 104 (Feb. 1, 1943). I'm thrilled to learn this product is still available for those of us with the He-won't-love-you problem today (due to a cold).
