Aye, but it does kinda suffer from the lack-of-modern release problem, but I guess the steam version is FINE now.

I agree it doesn’t need a remake but neither did DQ3 but that remake is pretty good!

not only is it an excellent and aesthetically incredible game, it's also such a solidly smooth experience that needs basically no "modern QoL" changes to enjoy today. of all the classic console RPGs this may be the one easiest for any modern gamer interested in it to just jump in

when I first played I was repeatedly surprised by how elegant and "modern" its design is without any adjustments. it feels like the stuff of twenty years of innovation except they were just that much quicker to figure it out, and without really sacrificing anything as a full RPG experience

the folks who're clamoring for a chrono remake are so fucking strange to me because the single thing that game knocks utterly out of the park above and beyond its contemporaries is its presentation, the single thing any remake would be MOST likely to change.

like it is fairly unexceptional in both its gameplay and narrative, both are good, but there was better even at the time, its strength and memorability come first and foremost from how gorgeous and lively all of its visuals are and how hard that soundtrack goes!

The pacing in Chrono Trigger is absolutely immaculate. it takes a few hours to get to 2300 but it's all killer no filler and never feels dull.
