techno organic monsters (which they technically are, I reckon) I kinda can get on board with the gaunt (I mean the Xenomorph is perfection), but for me the silhouette, is just so boring and lacking in variation.

i partially recall some interview with one of the designers that one of the goals is to de-emphasize how human-shaped the designs are and making "utility first" the priority.

Does this achieve that? I can see the utility of barely having feet on the protagonist MS but i'm not sure about these zakus

Makes sense, Yamashita designed the Evas in the first place. His new work would have a resemblance to his old work. The designs have grown on me.

These designs are definitely closer to armored core than gundam, im also not hugely in favor of ridding the thicker proportions with the bell bottoms, than the lankier, tight jean fit they have. Unless the zaku fulfill a different roll, but they have tried making MS fights zippier a lot for a while.

yeah & IMO are missing the mark. Every Gundam series w/ more grounded combat, be it RfV, 08ths, Doan's Island, etc? IMO are just vastly visually more interesting than watching different colored streaks of light sip around a black background to a disco of explosions.

The more Gee wiz, the worse, IMO

good visualization for a rock anime, but it would irk me less if they had leaned into the classic zaku features INTO their leaner AC direction. they basically shrank/replaced the shoulder armor and skirts, when they could have been sleeked/elongated for identity's sake, cables are good though.

The impression I get is that they are a twist of more realistic (Chin tracking camera, external maneuver thrusters) and almost fantasy (body proportions, Qcuux back back spiral). I remember IBO getting flak for not looking enough like a Gundam but damn if that didn't print stacks.

I mean, the designer of the Eva's is the mechanical designer of the new Gundam series, so that much makes sense. But Kawamori designed the Valkyries to be increasingly complicated as the designs progressed on purpose.

Yes, but those Valkyrie designs were also about a decade AFTER Evangelion had become so huge & made that Gaunt anorexic style the "in thing".

One doesn't have to directly do something to affect something, for good or ill & more complex doesn't require more anorexic & ugly. Plus & II did it fine.
