Nick Bryant at the press club with some advice for journalists:

We need information about their policy platforms, and analysis of the pros and cons from a cross section of society.
The last few elections in the UK have been dominated by opinion poll coverage, which often skewed the debate in the wrong direction (2010: Cleggmania, 2015: hung Parliament, 2017: huge Conservative majority) and very little about policies.
People should be studying policies not polls!
We need TRUTH IN MEDIA LAWS in Australia!
To stop the Bullshit!
People should be able to vote on facts not bullshit!
So the economic debate would see the finance minister, treasurer, and PM against their shadows putting their case forward. No journalist questions.
You could then have other topics with different ministers / shadows.
That would be hilarious....
As was said at the Press club, journalists shouldn’t be predicting winners and losers of an election as it means they are working towards their bias. I really hope some of those complicit were listening!
Excellent speech - covered a lot of current issues.

modern-day journalism that not only expects journalists to report on what has just happened [but] know what is going to happen.
“I didn't make a[n election] prediction because it corrupts your journalism. You tend to look for evidence that confirms your prediction and you tend to ignore the stuff that contradicts your prediction and it undermines the quality of your journalism.”
Great speech; most enjoyable. The Press Club deserves credit for bringing us this speaker too. More needed with these times ahead.
