Exactly right. Reeves has a very old-fashioned view of economics and finance, a follower of Thatcher. Starmer's ignorant of finance and enjoys the goodies the rich give him. The unregulated private SEZs/Freeports are the perfect excuse to swear never to re-join the EU or even the Single Market.

Labour MPs, Mayors, councillors, Lords, and Baronesses were active board members of Sunak and Truss' nationwide SEZs/Freeports consortia way back in 2021 through to 2022 when the bidding process closed. Labour signed off on the Tories SEZs way before they got into power.

Labour are pro-Brexit because Deloitte, DP World, Blackrock, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, ARUP, BP, Shell have told them their profits are too important to be taxed, that employment rights and environmental protections are obstacles to profit-making.

The deregulated zone is the 'exit' template, it is how govts and corporations privatise entire regions one by one until all public services atrophy, just in time for those same companies to step in and 'rescue democracy' from its failures.
