I think that's what a lot of other Americans don't get. I wouldn't mind paying higher taxes if what I GOT out of it IN RETURN was actually worth it.

Well you have to be aware that what you get is security. But you also pay for those who don't contribute as much. Are you willing to pay for people who for instance don't have a job? What if you never have to go to the hospital?
That's always the debate. I still pay it gladly:)

Given that any of us here in the US could be without a job overnight, or get a crippling medical debt that would wipe out two generations of savings, you'd think more people would be FOR those sorts of safety nets.

But the big problem here is that so few people admit, "that could be me one day."

I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, you pay in insurance, just as much as I do in tax....roughly.
The thing is I don't have to read a policy closely or argue with some company. My doctor doesn't make more or less money with a referral to specialist.
I'm without any work in getting better.

There's a zillion variables over here, both in taxes and insurance costs/benefits, but yeah, I'd say that's probably reasonably close on average. Of course, a lot of people don't even HAVE insurance because it's too expensive, sadly.

And that's obviously a huge problem, that we don't have. But that again brings in to play, that we pay for some who don't contribute as much.
I will say that I have an insurance, that costs me 20 bucks a month. This just ensures a speedier way through the system.
