I suppose she is unaware of "black wall street"-Greenwood Oaklahoma or Oscarville, Georgia, freedman's village, Virginia, Seneca Village,NY....etc etc. Black History is U.S. History
The land was acquired through eminent domain, so the land wasn't stolen; however, I am sure they got low dollars. I believe the area was primarily African American, but others lived there as well.
My father explained “eminent domain” to me by showing me in a series of maps how it changed Boston. There was not enough African Americans, so they took theirs, the Irish, Polish and Portuguese boroughs.
This country has displaced generations of marginalized or low income citizens for too long.
All to build highways, which are now, 60 yrs later, underground, and what was taken is now PRIME $$$ waterfront business space. Somebody made a grip of money.
Just follow the history of our interstate highway system. Planners deliberately put freeways through historic black neighborhoods, they were either demolished or cut off
