This autistic gets it but it’s not in keeping with the average or most common equals health and is best or correlation demonstration only as is funded by those towards furthering and securing pecuniary interests but call it evidence based anything…
Well long story short; a Nazi scientist did a bunch of flawed sexist research for several decades and for another couple decades other doctors went "Yup. Guess this is gospel now."
And now we're finally learning actual stuff about it and people are mad about it.
I have a ton of hobbies and I don't think having them should be considered a sign of autism or any other mental disorder. I also meet people who have no hobbies and I think those are the ones with a disorder.
It's partially that and partially that autism and the varied ways it presents in different people are better understood now. So the diagnosing criteria have expanded. For example, it often presents differently in girls and women than in boys and men.
I mean, I didn't know what stimming was until recently nor all the different ways it presented in folks.
Which is wild, considering...looking back and noticing what I do at times, I bloody stim. Though, less visibly now considering back then, one would get pick at or bullied for it.
Maybe if mental illness wasn't so stigmatized we would've been able to do research and have positive resources/outlets for people. Most people today think of autism and automatically think worst case senerio where someone is in need of assistance 24/7.
