it's incredibly funny that they're banging on about security concerns when the actual concern is "chinese cars are kicking our ass", something they can't say out loud

Legit, I'm so tired. What is so scary for the average American about China? I'm sick of the paranoia. Is it just that they're better business people than we are?
Their gov't is horrible, but let's be honest, it's not _their_ government that Americans should be afraid of. It's ours.
We killed our own Manufacturing Sector in the name of Profit, so now we're going to punish the places we used as off shore factories. - Basically what this move screams
China’s STEM graduates outnumber the U.S. by 8 to 1. In five years it will be 15 to 1. Currently China has more than a million more engineers than the U.S.
Yeah, but can their economy put them to good use? In other parts of the world, engineers without a job make good taxi drivers... but these jobs now are being automated by engineers and AI... 🤔
Ikr? Also there is no dealership infrastructure here- in sure they would love the US market but has it occurred to us that given this political climate - that we may not be the primary market for these cars? (Global south)
I am quite certain the tik tok ban is not, in fact, secretly all about the superiority of Chinese EVs but I am also *not* certain this post isn’t a bit so who knows
(although if America was truly anti-superior-foreign car, Toyotas would not exist in the United States, so I’m going with my gut here)
Equating foreign ally with un-allied foreign power.
However China allows American brands to import and build cars with autonomous computers in China. So America is worried about something China could do that it cannot. Tesla is the second most sold smart EV in China?
I'm honestly kind of curious about the OS ecosystem of Chinese EVs because I'd imagine one of the major concerns their government would have is "You can't just make a car obsolete in 3 years time"
Here it's more of a "Fuck you, we can drop your ass ANYTIME"
And millions migrate from tik tok to the Chinese app Xiao Hong Shu 😂
The refugees are being welcomed and a new understanding of people as individuals is kicked off
There is a knock on effect to all this...China cars get banned in NA...sure cool...protects our car jobs...but those cars are going to get made & sold elsewhere...particularly in China...this could push oil off a cliff...if China goes fully electric...careful what you wish for.............
They have overcapacity that cannot be absorbed by the Chinese market. They are mainly a threat to US automakers in foreign markets right now, where they are weak and have been for a long time.
The hope is it buys them time so they don’t lose the domestic market and enter a spiral. Not optimistic, since the US consistently lags their Japanese and European rivals, who also are making their own EV push that we cannot protect them from.
Its hilarious how scared of China the american govt has americans. What a joke. My chinese car has been kicking arse for 7 years now. It was cheaper it was more solid it was simpler & it was precisely what I wanted.
Loving it, & the jealousy of people who said it would fall apart within 12 mths..
They, Chinese car manufacturers, are kicking ass everywhere. Here in the EU all car makers are suffering, in particular the once mighty VW Group.
The sad part is *we knew* electric cars and Chinese cars was going to happen 25y ago!!!
Jesus fucking Christ. China has satellites and can see literally anything it wants already. Our govt is full of power hungry asshats. This timeline is the absolute worst.
I knew about the chinese cars. I knew we would be lucky to get them in our country, as our carmakers are COMMITTED to keeping electric cars overpriced and inefficient. Then act like americans don't want electric cars. What's the point of being big oil, if you can't sell it back to us.?
But not exactly a secret either. I get why the administration can’t say it but lots of others have. Pessimistic regardless about the future of US automakers.
America's been getting so many products from China for YEARS. Now, the new U.S. government is worried that China's the enemy. In reality, the U.S. is ruining itself.

But the "mitigations" are only against Chinese cars. It is mostly about limiting competition.
My EV is just as likely to be hacked by the US as it is by China. I trust neither.

Is it really better for the consumer than having a 10,000 dollar Chinese EV that has the same or better safety and amenities?

What's good for gm is terrible for the rest of us
They are used to having no data cap, so no data point goes unreported.

BYD and Hyundai are going to own the worldwide market. American makers are done.
Oh wait, there's Musk and the elites who like driving laptops that they can monitor and control remotely.
Is this how the US government and its capitalist systems start to burn and crumble? The cracks are showing, what do YOU think happens next? 💬👇
