Does this mean don't play it in the closed position or remove it altogether? 🤷‍♂️ At one time someone had a poll about this and the results were mixed.

Remove it altogether. It should slide up off the pins (lack of a better term) that it’s attached to. They cause vibrations that travel through the tonearm and stylus. If you’ve noticed, high-end turntables don’t come with a dustcover.

Hmm I wasn't aware of this, and your right that the upscale ones don't. Just checked though, not hearing any noticable affect closed, open or off though. Mine has bumper pads on front and a coil spring on hinges. I leave it unscrewed for lift off, but rarely do now. 🤷‍♂️

Mine just has pins on a hinge that slide into a groove on the cover. Easy to just leave it off.
