Close to Obby. Which is slang for obstacle course and a lot of them are hellish.

"Oublier" means "forget", so "oubliette" could be loosely translated as "memory hole".

"Down you go into the forgettie."

Getting memoryholed by getting tossed in an actual hole. Brilliant!

One of my cats has the nickname Oobles. Her other nickname is Deadly. This all now makes sense.
