Rejoining the EU is not the main issue at hand here. The UK can align itself with EU outwith a formal arrangement and can rearm, form a common defence policy and trade economically well without the US. Brexit happened and it will unhappen over the longer term when the fools who caused it have died.

Why rejoin the EU? I'd be happy to have us rejoin a European Common Market, but not a European Union.

Too oblique a statement for me to consider. What is your issue? You think leaving the EU through Brexit is self explanatory? The current US administration is showing us clearly why being in a European political community is both a safer and more economically beneficial place. Are you a Brexiteer?

Did you read the article? The “deal” if it is real would likely be simply a return to the status quo ante not an actual beneficial economic deal. You naively assume that it is possible to have deals with both in the current circumstances. Our EU allies would take a dim view of us siding with Trump.

Then you’re not making a decision on the basis of economic fact. UK does more trade with Europe than the USA. Europe will defend UK under NATO and US won’t. Is the left/right politics at work here or is it simply that authoritarianism cannot be bargained with only resisted or acceded to. I resist.

Read my reply fool. NATO! The US is the only country to have triggered article 5 of NATO in its defence post 9/11. It wouldn’t come to our aid now that is clear. Common sense is something you have nothing of judging by your response and you seem stuck in the past glories of an England long gone.
