I also wish they had given Wyll some dimensionality; it's kind of jarring given how many other characters are multifaceted and interesting to talk to, but with Wyll they just seemed to think you'd care about him because important stuff is happening *to* him and forgot to write him a personality - ThreadSky

yeah they really needed him to actually be arrogant and for that to come back with real consequences; instead it's revealed that the bad stuff he did was for the most morally pure reason possible

Wyll's flaws being "he just cared a little too hard" is actually very D&D coded, everyone starts going 'yes, this time, we WILL play an evil party' and then this gets forgotten the first moral dilemma you put in front of them.

They could have absolutely made the current, heroic Wyll work if you just had like... two decent conversations with him after Act 1. In Act 1 he's very defensive both of his father and of his choice to accept the pact, and you never get another chance to talk to him about his regrets and his desires

I think tying his plot to Karlach (but not doing anything with that) and having him be transformed by Mizora (but it not having a real effect on the plot) were both distractions from what could have been a very powerful story about his bitterness and regret about his exile & his desire to return

The thing is, he has a very interesting story and a fun personality (sweet dude who wants to help people is forced to sell his soul at age 17 to do so, which makes him do the bidding of a devil and kill certain infernals who can be innocent through loopholes in his contract) +

They just didn’t explore it as much as the other companions for some damn reason + he has a 4 hour content disparity with the other companions. Every day i’m bummed they fumbled his character so damn bad and didn’t even bother adding more content after release

+ she still has more content than Wyll (although quite little as well). Larian seems to avoid questions about it like the plague as well, so maybe it’s copyright issues w WotC? Idk it’s all quite weird 😔

comparing Wyll with Karlach is interesting though because they really made sure to make every Karlach moment count. I basically never build a party without Karlach! so it makes the “oh it was a late change” thing feel less convincing and yeah, just weird
