It's envelope-pushing. The goal is to establish what happened with the DOGE guy as the workplace norm: if a white guy offers a weak apology he can keep his job. You start with a slur that doesn't personally offend many people. Then you bring the other ones out one by one until the hard R is back.

Others have remarked on this but the resurgence of the R word across the political spectrum is really wild? Like did I miss a memo about this? I expect it from some people but from others, you really can't come up with a better and more interesting way to describe people you don't like?
