Separate the art from the artist unless the artist is hellbent on removing the human rights of others in which case stop making excuses for why you still give them money when there are millions of much kinder and hungrier artists out there

To be perfectly clear, I don't disagree with you at all, but I want to do something else. I want to steal the art from her. Like the nazi's did with Pepe the frog. Make Wizard boy into a pro-transgender meme, share pictures of him with top scars and (+)
discussing his HRT with his friends. Write 'Fanfiction' about him rejecting the canon ending of his series and quitting the Wizard cops and becoming an anti-establishment rebel.
Have him take down 'nobility' and endorse communism.
Proud to be part of the generation who made JKR feel uncomfy because we wrote smutty Harry Potter fanfiction.
(Now that I’m pushing 40, it’s so weird and uncomfy to think about 16 year old kids writing NC-17 fanfiction, but that’s what me and my friends were doing 🤷🏻)
Yeah. The wizards and witches could share their magic with everyone, and everyone's lives would be improved; but then they would not be special anymore.
The HP books are basically presenting apartheid as something not merely right and proper, but fundamentally unquestionable.
I feel like this fits in line with what Rowan said, actually. There's a big difference between buying things associated with HP which give JK her royalties vs. consuming fan art and fan fiction or spreading memes, which she doesn't receive a penny from.
If ever I want to get an HP fix, I plan on watching A Very Potter Musical which is a parody of HP put on by a production crew who is all supportive of LGBTQIA+ people. In my view, their parody is so much better than the original it's parodying. AND, JK doesn't get any money from me watching!
I support your ultimate point but I just have to state positively that Harry Potter is NOT art and should not under any circumstances be associated with the term
I dunno about that. If they're not trying to take away others human right, but they still engage in bad behavior like abuse, still supporting their art tells them their behaviour's okay, and I don't want to send that message.
I was making a very specific point here about a very specific person. There are plenty of artists I don’t support based on their shitty behaviour, too.
It’s always ok to decide for yourself that you don’t want to support a particular artist because their actions are against your values.
There’s a very large difference, however, in the scale of harm done by abusers and that done by the funder and figurehead of an international hate movement.
I don't know about the "hell bent" part. I can easily toss even passively evil artists from my world. Like the entire catalogues of Eric Clapton and Van Morrison's music and I don't miss listening to racists. Just am unable to separate most times.
Not to mention there is a huge difference between consuming art from a problematic person who is no longer here profiting off their work and someone who has actively said her royalty checks fuel her to keep pushing to make bigoted changes in society. JK's pinned Tweet is her gloating about royalties
I don’t understand what you’re saying here. Do you think I’m hoping people will buy my art if they don’t buy someone else’s? Because that’s not what I’m saying or even hinting at.
