You can criticize the execution of the project. It's been an absolute shitshow, but if they'd managed to actually build the damned thing the benefits (including environmental) were huge.

Oh I've read a *lot* about the impact of HS2. Including from people who actually think it'll reduce road journeys & benefit the environment, lol. And those who won't be happy until the nation is covered in concrete, because Growth.
