Phillis Wheatley Peters (c. 1753–1784) was the first African American to publish a book of poetry. Born in West Africa, she was kidnapped, sold into slavery, and brought to Boston. The Wheatley family taught her to read and write, supporting her poetic talent. #BlackHistoryMonth #blh2025 #resist
