hard to replace the connection a lot of people have to HP though. like i know everyone knows this, and it doesn't change the obvious moral obligation at play, but it's not as easy as just swapping it out with another series, even if that new series is astronomically better.

that said, i think it's telling that this opinion is primarily a social media thing, because we're the ones who are constantly seeing rowling act like the most wretched piece of shit online, while for the average person, that behavior is laundered through sanitized opinion pieces.

For real. LeGuin allows herself a little flex in the introduction to Wizard of Earthsea, talking about inventing the “wizard school” trope and disparaging HP a little. But Earthsea is deeper, kinder, and more beautiful than HP by a wide margin
