Yeh idk it’s a very human experience that’s both specific to being transgendered while echoing experiences the majority of people who aren’t transgendered have growing up . It’s a damn shame kids were robbed of experiencing that connection

Yeah, I've been mistaken for a boy many a times cause of short hair/other things and obviously as a teen that was hard on me and in clash with me hating to conform to typical gender roles and looks. This kind of video manages to make me tap into that and feel as you say an echo of a situation.

I think everyone, even people with solid cisgender conceptions of self, have had struggles with their relationship to gender and social performance at some point while growing up. It’s practically a requirement of adolescence and figuring yourself out

Nobody loves Disney, Disney is the institutional middleman of a relationship between artists and audiences that decided it could squeeze blood from every stone. If we want representation and for artists and audiences to be treated with decency that is a thing that has to be won from them

I used to work with the wife of a storyboard artist for Disney. When I found this out, I told her about the Disney studio tour I'd taken as a kid, where you'd see all the artists desks thru a glass wall. No artists though. She told me that's cuz admin kicked all the artists out when guests came by.

I always explain to my non-artists friends that the lack of actual diversity in animation is because animation execs are among the most terrified of the exec-types because even a sliver of public outrage might actually effect them so they preemptively quash any diversity of any sort. It's all money.

I don’t think it’s that… there’s a controversy about trans-females being in an all female sports team. If this movie is about an all girl sports team, then it kinda is the right move to not include the trans-female character as she’s supposed to be a member of the team.

Aubrey there's ALWAYS a controversy about trans people in sports, there never won't be. Fact is this is becoming a pattern, and Disney is already infamous for censoring LGBTQ+ scenes/characters in foreign releases. Now they're doing it at the production stage.

Why should we wait, when there are clearly artists working at Disney's studios who want to tell these stories now? When the corporation nixed a fully complete episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur for similar reasons? Demand better.
