Trueeee but i feel like Microsoft losing confidence on it is a pretty big one. I guess no one is bothering to subscribe to get AI credits to use the AI shit they crammed into Windows lol.
I can't like, personally imagine a way ai would increase profits for social media platforms and computer/phone companies? i dont think it would attract more users so you're just like spending more money per user without getting more money from that user? Genuinely can't figure out their math
we're announcing a new service for users on top of existing services where a guy comes to your house and spits on your floor, it's costing us a lot of money and people mostly aren't excited about it, they definitely dont want to pay extra for it, but we're sending him anyway and he's full of spit
Honestly, at this juncture I think it's kinda just sunk-cost fallacy driving the whole thing
The folks who invested heavily in this snake oil like to think of themselves as the smartest people in existence. So they want to recoup their losses, without admitting they got caught up in a hype bubble
I think there might actually be a market for the full of spit guy... You're never going to guess what was in my feed right above this post... And we don't need algorithms to make those drawings! Yeah!
Social media enshittification through generating fake content/engagement with AI can “improve” the experience for idiots, and machine learning is likely already being used to decide what’s on our feeds
And a bunch of tech-illiterate people might be wow’d by AI features on devices/apps and buy them
We are in full late capitalist scam economy mode where you don't sell things you sell the idea of things and ride the float because endless growth demands more profit centers than actually exist so you make up shit to invest in that isn't real and also sucks
Whole reason all this AI investment was so important in the first place was to make a superintelligence that can solve all the world's problems and tell the Silicon Valley ghouls how to live forever
content algos are preety much ai just a different type to ones that are on spotkight rn
im not suprised that companies that immensly benefited from creating social media addiction by implementung content algos would want more of the same thing
Comments
and b) dont forget whose fault this is when they make it everyone else's problem
