I’m glad that he mostly didn’t seem to set a precedent when it came to being that way. Celebrini is still a Shark in 2025, and that’s the way it should be. Big market teams should not have an inherent advantage in roster building in any real sports league that cares about parity

I love Pyotr but that’s a pretty bad yield for a player of his caliber, and that’s AFTER one of the picks hit pretty hard due to Waddell/Tulsky magic. That trade would have never happened if we had any leverage whatsoever over the situation

We got 2 picks for Fox. The 2019 2nd rounder went to Ottawa for the picks that became Rees and Honka. The 2020 2nd rounder was used for Gunler. Rees was traded to Ottawa for the pick that became Timur Kol. Honka will be a RFA after the season and is unlikely to be re-signed.

This is correct. That particular Rangers pick became other picks, which basically got us Jamieson Rees and Anttoni Honka.

It's the weird loophole where if a college player stays in school all four years, they become a UFA. I don't think there's a similar loophole for non-NCAA players, aside from reaching a certain age.

They don’t even have to stay in school for 4 years. They just have to declare the end of their eligibility. Blake Wheeler only played 3 years at Minnesota but had no interest in playing in Phoenix so he said “I’m done”, waited until August and signed with Boston.
