Yeah and Avs moved Rantanen because they think Necas and the space is valuable to building a good team. Necas is doing very well playing with MacKinnon.
Was working well finally with the Canes to start the season. Likely helped them finally sell him. I think the Canes need that type of player or their offense can go stagnant.
Sure, it was. But they've also seen it for how many years now? Can you bet on it continuing, or do you think it'll regress because he's shown those flashes in the past but has consistently done it.

Yeah Tulsky is THE most analytically minded GM in the NHL, possibly in North American pro sports. This is 100% the way he thinks when making these decisions. If anything, recent performance is an indicator to him to sell high
also if he's not a truly elite, top of the league wing in there system (which he flat out hasn't been and why they traded him for Rantanen), then they need to allocate that spot to a C which is the position they desperately need to fill.
