Many happy returns on his 70th birthday to our alumnus and advocate Sir Simon Rattle who first joined us as a young teenager when the Rehearsal Orchestra acted as a practice orchestra for the Conductors' Seminars organised by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in 1968-69, under Sir Charles Groves.
