Yes, we always used to get a frozen turkey as a backup option in case we couldn't get a nice fresh one. Few years ago we didn't get a fresh one so used the frozen. Haven't bothered with fresh since. No difference.
I don't bother brining it, always turns out fine. I'd also keep the beef away from visitors. I'd have beef on the big day but my wife and kids would be gutted if there was no Turkey.
