In my 20+ year abusive marriage, my abuser frequently sabotaged my efforts at weight loss and getting in shape. He didn't want me (he had multiple affairs and physically rejected me over and over) but he didn't want me to be wanted by others, either.

It's a brutal indictment of our culture that fat women feel like they should be grateful to have a husband, and therefore don't have boundaries with him. But I'm not sad that "intimacy" falls apart when a woman gains self-esteem. Those were not happy marriages.
