Just announced: University of Michigan Faculty Senate resoundingly votes to support Big Ten academic mutual defense compact. 92.8% of over 3,000 votes.

1) curious about the 203 who voted “no” on the protecting students, faculty etc.
2) even more curious about the 11 who didn’t want the mutual defense but who did want to protect students, faculty etc. (I am assuming the Venn diagram of the “no” votes on each are close to a circle.)
Most of the conservatives I have known are in favor of universities, academic freedom, and research. And would even be opposed to having their students kidnapped without due process.

They didn't cave. They just adjusted the internal DEI policies to correspond with the new federal law that Trump implemented. I don't believe it was done because of an "ask" by the Trump administration.
Yet there was no public comment from the BIg10 when the administration initiated a task force focusing on four of their schools: Northwestern, UCLA, USC, and Minnesota (per NYT April 14 article).
While focus has been on Harvard and Columbia, no school is safe.
