Remember Italia 90 being the first World Cup where I understood what was happening.
Seeing all these players from around the world really turning it on. Looking back I wonder whether it was because it was in Italy, with the best league at the time, where flare was encouraged. Amazing.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Serie A was THE destination league for the world’s elite players, bar a handful of clubs in Spain, Germany and England.
I loved Football Italia on Channel 4. There was something so effortlessly classy about the quality action on the pitch, as well as James Richardson going through the sports papers outside a cafe with an espresso. ☕️
I loved watching C4’s Serie A coverage on a Sunday afternoon in the 90’s, a great way to recover from the night before and it served up some great moments.
I will always love the Milan kit with the white shorts. It said to me, "We are going to wipe the floor with you today, and we're going to look amazing while we do it."
The most competitive high quality league that has ever existed. In that period the level of talent on every team in the Serie A was something we’d never seen before and haven’t seen since, what a time.
I loved football so much more when you only read about players and how good they were.
Then only saw them play in the world cup, it was better than Christmas
