i was shocked when, whilst trying the Forever Winter demo it did this exact thing, including the aspect ratio (!) which at times made it impossible to revert back because the selection arrows were moved off my screen as a result

I think games should go to monitor default at first personally, but the best way is not setting the resolution beyond the default until I personally find the one I want and hit the button

this isn't even about that. this is about booting into the game, going into the settings menu because it's 1024x768, and wanting to go to 3840x2160 and having it commit to EVERY SINGLE RESOLUTION one by one until you get to 4k. it takes MINUTES to get through.

That gave me a great idea. Instead of having it be a dropdown, it'll be a button that makes the game automatically cycle through all resolutions, and you have to click it again to pick the right one before the game changes to the next. The perfect UX.

Omg I think I have encountered this. Then you pass the one you were meant to choose, then it lags and you get lost, or somehow it crashes and doesn't save the setting. AHHH it's the worst.
