I don't know what's more painful, how so much of the mainstream media has been complicit in the dehumanization of trans people over these years or their silence now.

I haven't paid money to the NYT for a few years (even though I miss the Cooking stuff especially!) because I have too much uh... self respect ... but I nonetheless sometimes open the homepage and do a depressing exercise where I control search "trans" and yesterday there was literally nothing.
I have cis friends reaching out and expressing dismay that they don't know what's going on and they don't know how bad things are, feeling bad about it at me, and I'm like, hey it's not YOUR fault; we're all being totally failed here by the media failing to adequately cover this unfolding atrocity.
If you're cis and wondering how to stay informed @assignedmedia.org @erininthemorning.com @chrisgeidner.bsky.social are all doing fantastic work. I'll probably write about this in my newsletter.
Perhaps obvious but feminist/queer-leaning outlets like @19thnews.org @teenvogue.com and Them (still not on here??) are actually covering what's happening to trans people
I know/am formerly colleagues with (and even truly respect) many writers and editors who take paychecks from the NYT and the Atlantic etc. For years I've observed how these institutions have failed us ALL by failing to reckon with their bigoted stances and where it's lead us.
Rephrased more positively: There is an IMMENSE opportunity right now, as ever, for organizations that have been softly/aggressively anti-trans to reexamine their own biases, to hire trans writers/editors, to actually start adequately covering this assault on trans people and our rights.
