for the vast majority of the minorities in the us its not possible. also you cant just leave lol, the other country has to agree to have you, and many of us are also disabled and arent able to leave for many reasons. not to mention the expenses.

I wonder if there’s any kind of fund to help pay for passports. I know the cost prevented me from getting one until a couple years ago. I know there’s funds to help trans folks in getting their documents updated.

I agree with you 100% about the birth certificate & other similar citizenship documents.

I also feel that encouraging people to absorb the expense of a passport is asking a lot of folks with limited funds.

A passport doesn't have any magic powers. It can be easily confiscated or invalidated.

A passport does have magic powers. It gets you entry to many countries for 3-6 months. It is the only accepted legal ID in many parts of the world. Wake up and see the world is bigger than your tiny narrow view.

I know what a passport does under normal circumstances of international travel.

All I'm saying is that if things get *really* bad, and the State Department wants to prevent you from leaving the U.S., they can invalidate your passport.

The same government that issues an I.D. can take it away.

If it gets really bad all the other countries have processes for asylum. If we can’t keep people from entering the US we surely can’t prevent people leaving. The borders are too vast. Keep a digital and paper copy of all your documents in encrypted e-mails not Google.
