I'm sure it's reasonable for things like allergies, but virtually every person I've met who casually mentions "reading ingredients" was doing because they're terrified of ingredients with more than two syllables.
There’s a line where you read the ingredient list and understand why it contains gum Arabic or isinglass or some dye, or you recoil at anything you don’t understand with the misunderstanding it wasn’t done that way in the past and pretend that the past wasn’t *much worse*
