Seriously? Chicago should have figured out a better way to handle waste water then shipping it into Lake Michigan or down to the Mississippi River. Illinois contributes next to nothing to the Great Lakes and is a net drain on the Great Lakes. 👎

You're still sending more water out of the Great Lakes then you contribute to the watershed. Hence net drain.

They changed the Chicago River, and instead of contributing to the watershed, it drains even more water away from the watershed. Chicago is a net drag on the Great Lakes.

Limnilogically (not sure that'a a word) speaking, it's true. Very little of the rains that fall over illinois flow back into Lake Michigan. The sliver of the Great Lakes watershed that is in Illinois-proper is tiny

So I guess we'd need to know what the poster means by "contributes." If it's water alone, yes, Illinois doesn't contribute much. But does Chicago and the State wield influence that helps protect and preserve the Great Lakes ecosystem, also yes.

I have news for you. The clear cutting of almost all of our old growth forests was to rebuild Chicago housing after O'Leary's cow burned down the city in the Great Chicago Fire. You're welcome.
