Oh yes oh yes. Inter Arma at St. Vitus is probably in my top 5 favorite concerts of all time. They eclipse genre while staying metal AF.

I don’t need to write anything about Blood Incantation because the internet can supply you with infinite discourse, but I think they deserve all the hype. Hidden History of the Human Race is probably my favorite album of the last decade, and Absolute Elsewhere is as good or better.

Some of the coolest bands in NYC put out excellent but incredibly unpleasant albums this year. @carolinedraws.bsky.social ‘s cover art for Exhaust perhaps the perfect example of how people like us find beauty through things that others find ugly. These albums are not for everyone but they are for me

Two more favorites. Oranssi Pazuzu no surprise- I have loved everything they have done. They continue to combine black metal, psychedelic rock and electronic/industrial elements in inventive and compelling ways. The Body is a band I am still coming to terms with- but this collab with Dis Fig is A+.

This album deserves a special award for making me incredibly sad even though the vocals are 100% incomprehensible screeches. Literally why they call it screamo I guess- the emotion Frail Body conveys on this album is unbelievable (tracks 3 and 4 are devastating). Screamo/ blackgaze masterpiece.

I just listened to blood incantation the other day for the first time. They are definitely doing some unique shit and bringing a different soundscape to the genre.
