All the previous influxes brought us more congenial people; this one is bringing people who want Bluesky to be Twitter. I have ideas about why, but what a pain.
I have a bad habit of starting yes ands with an ironic “to be fair” or “with all due respect” but even I know do the thing asked not to do isn’t funny in the year of our cat 2024.
I have seen so far today someone lecturing Amanda Knox about being too strong on rights of the accused and someone suggesting Lindsay Boylan only disapproved of sexual assault from the other party. This place is definitely getting Twitter vibes (derogatory)
I think people like to harm back to a "golden age" that never actually existed, whether it's pre-Musk Twitter or something else.
In the UK, many people think that everything was fine before Brexit for example. The US will have equivalents too.
Oh completely. I still fall into that trap—I get nostalgic for the 2000s/early 2010s when I was happiest and most optimistic about the Internet. But I have to remember that 1) that wasn’t everyone’s experience and 2) the seeds of our dysfunction now were already planted and growing then.
Yeah, I think we all have different ideas about what we remember as the “golden age” because those memories depend on what we were or were not subjected to in various online spaces.

For me, being able to put a name on it helps somehow.
From a well, actually.
And, yes, it’s definitely noticeable. Also more (fellow) folks with pedantic tendencies.
