I've got them already blocked. This just confirms past me's decision. 😃
It's not about blocking those who disagree, but blocking people who are toxic (tankies and trolls). If they can disagree agreeably, there would be no issue. If it's something that is possible with.
No joke, I've been banning followers who are following more than 1k people.
I assume they're one of 3 things:
1) They don't know how the hell this site works (not a crime, sorry people!),
2) They're sophisticated bots(ugh.)
3) Are engagement farming for flipping accounts(I'm not helping you!)
I'm following about 2k, because I got a little carried away with starter packs - but I'm also disabled and frequently stuck in bed with not enough brain for anything other than Bluesky, so having plenty to read is nice.
I went a little nuts with starter packs recently & might need to cut back. I love my feeds the way they are, so I'm going to leave them for now. My issue is people thinking I'll auto follow. I'll only follow if I'm interested in what you post & you should do the same. Quality over quantity.
I'll limit myself to about 300 follows, based on a decade and a half of Twitter experience. I can't keep up with any more than that, so anyone else might just go in a feed if I want to be able to check up on them from time to time.
Eh I clicked a lot of journalist, black sky, and trans starter packs and follow everyone thats trans or supports trans rights. Guess I’m a follow whore though.
There is a guy following me who is trying to have 1:7 followers to following ratio and that's funny.
There ARE more than the exceptions above, I've loosened my criteria a bit, but if your vibes are off, you're gone. Obviously a bit? Lottery winner spreading cheer through DMs? C'MON.
These people are awful. Such entitlement. They remind of "nice guys" who ask you out and then go all "OH YOU THINK YOU'RE TOO GOOD FOR ME YOU (expletive)??" when you decline their advances.
I thought we’d finally all accepted that Bluesky would be different. We’d follow who we wanted and wouldn’t take offense if we weren’t followed back. We’d block who we wanted whenever we wanted w/o judgement. It’s not personal, we’re all just choosing our own experience here.
I liked it better then.
I think for many, it is still that way. It’s harder for big accounts since it takes a lot more maintenance. But I’ve gotta say the nuclear block is such a great tool it should be used liberally. Your personal choices for follows ain’t nobody’s business but your own.
I posted about this before but I think we should use the AA rules about sponsors. You can say no for any or no reason, and afterwards neither party is allowed to be weird about it
It's also just really fucking selfish. Like there are accounts where it would be really cool if they followed me back but I also don't think people are under any obligation to ruin their experience on here so they can have their feeds clogged with my autism posting and dumb pictures of my cat
And it’s always someone following like 10s of thousands of accounts and being super shocked that not everyone is following them back. Why tf would anyone wanna follow that many people? That just sounds like a mess.
I’m pretty self aware that I’m a “nobody.” I don’t expect people to follow me back, and I honestly don’t want a huge following. The idea of thousands of people following me is anxiety inducing.
A week or two ago I had a post that got a LOT more likes than I was anticipating and it kinda freaked me out a little 😅 My dumb little tweets on Twitter would get a handful of likes from mutuals. That post got 400-something and I turned off my phone lol.
"She wants to curate her own experience but" is a deranged way to start a sentence, there is literally no way to end it that won't sound absolutely unhinged
Snitch-tagging is the practice of "@"-ing someone in a thread that criticizes them. Like, "Hey! We're talking shit about you over here, and want you to notice!" or "Hey! These people are talking shit about you, and I want you to notice (and possibly send all your followers to harass them)!"
These people are so unserious. Nobody here is giving you money/brownie points/a book deal/an “aren’t you special gala” on your own private island because you gathered a bajillion followers thru follow-backs and have no interesting content. That’s barely on the *other* sites. Go back to there!
You think you're entitled to do so BUT you don't think you should be critiqued for it? No, you must pick one or the other, because those are separate stances and not just the same thing said two different ways
i follow close to the same number of people you do & it's getting unwieldy. i can only think these folks have a far different aim for their social media experience than either of us (and i don't presume your aim is the same as mine, either)
I follow about 200 people, and I can’t keep up. If my account were 100 times bigger, I’m still not sure I’d follow many more than I’m following now. It’d just be unwieldy.
Your account is one of the first I followed when I migrated here. I learned so much from you about this platform works and I have been able to curate a nice and informative experience. I never expected a follow back, still don’t.
Thank you.
Also I had to look up snitch tagging. Not nice at all.
lol I can't see what you shared cause I'm blocked but I'm assuming it's the same guy I tore into I told him it was work getting followbacks from big accounts or legit famous people and I considered a point of pride not just a basic assumption they oughta do it.
Exact same vibes as the whole "checkmark verified accounts are being snobs because I'm not famous enough to warrant a checkmark verification." What is this, even?
I’m a small account that doesn’t follow back, at least not without checking out whether I want to read your posts. If I don’t know you, why should I? Can’t imagine what it would be like to follow back 10s of 1000s of accounts… no thanks!
Oh good lord, it's a pleasant surprise if a 'big account' follows back. Zero expectation here.
I struggle to keep up when following 600 people, I'm not going to hassle someone to follow thousands.

I already found people following me using AI, crypto traders, BlueWavers using anti-trans jokes, "no GFM". All that gives me the ick.
I don't understand people following thousands of other people, that's not FUNCTIONAL to me, but if you're not being a nuisance or a menace, it's cool.

-Gaza people Molly Shah follows(she speaks to them, that's fine, they're reaching out for help!)
-People followed by at least some people that I follow (I need SOME kind of vouch.)
I liked it better then.
So these people demanding everyone follow back hadn’t followed 50k of their own followers.
Just telling on themselves and making it clear what this nonsense is really about.
Do they get stitches as well?
I need to stick to wheat thins, club soda and canasta.
Pardon my French, but that is some weak shit.
Real Bugs Meany vibes.
You're also on the hook for 25 million cupcakes.
Second of all, [extended farting noises]
Thank you.
