They exist In Ireland (and UK), it's called a Statutory Instrument. She's just got her terminology wrong. Like EOs in the USA they are an extremely weak form of secondary legislation that is very easy to override.

But a SI can only be... I dunno what the term is - not enacted, anyway, activated, maybe? - if primary legislation gives a minister the power to do so. A minister can't just go "I'm signing a SI to ban paper straws and foxhunting" unless there's a prior "Paper Straws and Foxhunting Act". I think?

I sent a note to my local TD decrying his nomination of her for the Seanad (and explaining *why* she is a danger), and his reply was that she had been very good to him, so it was a matter returning the compliment. I didn't respond, but the young bucko won't be getting a vote from me in the future.

He seems spectacularly thick in his political operations. Threw his lot in with Lowry because all that happened when he was 2. His election posters used a shade of green that made me think he might be fash. Was only when his leaflet came thrugh MIL's door did I see that he claims to be left wing.

One of the points he made to me in his response was that he will do what needs to be done for the people of Dublin Bay North, and I was left with the distinct notion that if that's what needs to be done to get it, then I don't think I want it.
