I think it's almost impossible not to make an enjoyable Christmas Carol movie* because the source material is so good.

Dickens wrote a tale worthy of Homer or Shakespeare.

I can't believe anyone would fail to be moved at such a redemption story.

I'm 66 and watched the film for the first time yesterday. I have seen every adaptation from Alistair Simm to the animated version. I completely concur with your post; it is a wonderful telling of the story.

I also recommend Simon Callow’s one-man version of a Christmas Carol. It’s very beautiful and clever. Available on iPlayer for another 10 days. Only 72mins. Doesn’t compare with the muppet film, it’s more like an acted reading. But it’s quite lovely

I was 25 when this came out so it was not part of my childhood Muppets and, therefore, I've never seen it. And my kids never got into the Muppets. So maybe that is that.

It's been an annual dvd tradition since our kids were young but yesterday we went out, kids now 25plus, to watch it at the cinema and it was even better.
