In the UK we have no concept of a ‘politically appointed or elected judge.’
A judge’s role is to use his experience and expertise to fairly interpret the law and to impartially guide a jury on the complexities of a particular case.
Not to pursue a partisan agenda.
Indeed many still lament the 2005 Act - for reasons I can't fathom.
Judges/Justices being elected by simple majority by voters/senators is the problem
