They don’t want to rely on the EU in any way.This looks like a Brexit win for them.Trade deal with the US keeps the door closed to the EU.So they’re not really praising Starmer, they’re still undermining UK interests in a roundabout way.And they will throw him under the bus at the first opportunity.

There won't be a trade deal with the USA. The benefits are minimal and the costs, both practically and electorally, are high.

This is just a delaying action to avoid action against the UK, and try and keep the USA onside regarding Ukraine.

Yes I agree. I was just thinking that this is how the RW media appeals to their supporters, because for them even the prospect of a deal will mean less alignment with the EU, so it’s in their interest do support Starmer now.

The trade deal doesn't have to be an all or nothing. Apparently the scope has been narrowed. It will be interesting to see if this narrow scope makes any practical difference to the balance of trade for goods and services.

The UK seems determined to follow the USA path on AI development and divert from the more cautionary approach adopted by the EU so that seems to be area where the USA could rebalance services trade.

You have the luxury of indulging your feelings, Starmer doesn't.

His first duty is to protect UK interests, and if that means playing nice with Trump, that's what he'll do.

If he'd visited the USA and called Trump a fascist that wouldn't have been a diplomatic disaster with very bad consequences.
