In our area, there are two groups of cyclists: transportation cyclists and spandex cyclists. Our observations about perceived “issues” with cycling infrastructure is that they are designed for safety and to improve traffic flow for all forms of transportation. 1/2

Enter the spandex cyclists misusing the infrastructure for athletic/race training (eg. not following the rules of the road), and it becomes less predictable (and less safe IMHO) for all road users. What we see here are mostly unused bike lanes except when training is happening.

The phrase 'traffic congestion' reveals a car-centric bias. This car-centric mindset overlooks the rights of cyclists to share public space. In reality, public spaces should be inclusive of all users, including cyclists, pedestrians, and public transport riders.

Yup. I drive a truck in the city for 8 hours a day. I love bike lanes. Rather than jamming the smallest vehicles on the road into the same lane as the largest vehicles on the road, they keep us safely apart. Makes my life way better.
