The problem is the conservative mindset believes that doing this means simply giving away free stuff, and tempting others to become homeless for it. Never mind it costs less and becomes stable. It's the GIVING they oppose.

The conservative mindset is fine in and of itself, but it's exacerbated by greedy people telling conservatives they're victims continually year on year whilst being the real reason people get poorer. Conservatives are looking for a reason to hate and are easily manipulated into "othering".

Saying cruelty is the point implies it's conscious. If they don't see those who dare to deviate from straight, white American male as human, then the rules of decent don't apply to accuse cruelty. I believe that of the politicians and mouthpieces, but not the sheep they drag along.

Thinking more on this, maybe the bigger issue isn’t just politics but how society sees homelessness. People blame individuals instead of the system, so real solutions don’t happen because voters do not support them, not just because politicians refuse to act.
