The end of the era where the U.S. was a dependable and mostly rational benign hegemon is over and that’s terrible in a lot of ways. But longer term it’s probably best for everyone but the Americans… assuming the U.S. doesn’t deteriorate to waging open war when it doesn’t like what it did to itself.
Oh yeah I guess that’s what he meant by “peace through strength”. Sucker punch everyone, kick them in the crotch when they’re down, and cry foul if they fight back. Are we great now?
He’s actually right for once. This trade war is preparing Americans for the generational loss of face to opponents to whom they have gifted the moral high ground and the presumption of credibility. So get to the gym and exercise that humility muscle, you’re gonna be using it a lot in coming years.
