These Elon/Trump memes are torn from the exact same page as the Putin/Trump memes from last time. Homophobic undertones aside, the message that "Our president should be all-powerful but he is being too subservient to another powerful man" is a terrible critique.
These memes are also based in bad political analysis because they assume Trump is doing Elon’s bidding. But both men are working towards the same goals. Plus Trump loves having a fall guy to do the risky potentially unpopular stuff. If it succeeds, Trump takes credit. If it fails, Trump blames Elon.
I was going to say that kissing the feet is a historically real sign of fealty, but then i saw the video, and yeah, that's way more than symbolic feet kissing =/
But the President is _not_ supposed to be subservient to anyone but Congress, the Courts, and the general will of the People at large.
Except what’s really happening is that Elon and Trump are working towards the exact same ideological goals. And Trump likes having a fall-guy doing the potentially unpopular stuff. If it succeeds, Trump takes credit. If it fails, Trump blame Elon. It’s a win/win for Trump.
Personally i suspect that Trump's ego is too big and his mental state has deteriorated too much for him to have put that much thought into it, but i definitely can't prove that.
Who knows, but I do think it's a mistake for activists to bank on one person's unstable ego. The project is much bigger. Authoritarians, billionaires, and Neo-reactionaries have been working towards this moment for a generation. Some people being mean on social media isn't going to stop them now.
