I think people forget that a LOT of disabled people used that app as a source of income. A lot of disabled creators spent their last videos talking about having to go back to the workplace and urging followers to find their other socials bc they just lost their income from the ban.
It was a way these creators who struggled (including unhoused ppl!) to educate people and make a survivable income while at it, and now it's gone like that.
That makes a lot of sense.
I personally wasn’t a fan of the ultra-fast paced aspect of it, but I can completely see people watching someone consistently reacting to current trends and noticing that they are incredibly fluent, and understanding that means they know a lot about improv.
Yeah. My wife didn't understand my community on the bird app, in fact at the time she thought it was harmful, but she understood that it hurt me to leave. She actually is the one who got me on here
This. Democrats and SCOTUS just handed the incoming fascist regime the power to ban just about any platform or mode of communication they don't like. Zuck and Musk handed theirs over to propaganda, but those who won't are now vulnerable. No help is coming. Obeying in advance.
I don’t claim it’s a nuanced moral code, but if your blast radius includes @hankgreen.bsky.social you might be using too big caliber to fight influence operations.
I got to hear the stories of a lot of people I never would have met in my real life. I got to see a lot of things the powers-that-be don't want me to see. I got to bypass corporate media and government propaganda. And that's why they banned it
I just completely annihilated a privileged Blondie on FB who was ranting in all the posts about it being gone. Told her many people lost a strong community and their livelihoods... in not so nice words 🤷♀️😏
Much of modern society's only sense of community is on an app.
Making fun of people - any people - has always been what the worst of the worst have done throughout history.
We really haven't 'evolved' much.
