One of the best things about Mega Man 4 is that each fortress has multiple themes. Later games would only have one theme per fortress. This is the first (arranged) theme for Dr. Cossack's castle.

Art of Dr. Cossack's Citadel in Mega Man 4, unlocked in the PS1 version after beating the game on Easy (Original Mode). The Russian style reflects the game's Cold War setting. Ironically, the Soviet Union would dissolve within weeks of this game's release.
"Roll: 50's"
ロールちゃんはダンシングをしていますね。
Bonus art unlocked in Rockman 4 (Complete Works), when beating Original/Famicom mode on Hard.
Roll dancing like in Back to the Future or another film/TV show set in the 1950s.
"Rock 'n' Roll"
Bonus art unlocked in Rockman 4 (Complete Works), when beating Navi/Arranged Mode on Hard (this mode features a CD-quality soundtrack!).
Roll fixes Mega Man's tie for him before the party (see the bonus art from Rockman 6 of them heading there).
Let's turn to the PlayStation Complete Works version of Mega Man 4. Level design is some of the best of the series, as well as the weapons, such as Pharaoh Shot and Ring Toss. Oh, and the music (by Alph Lyla's Minae Fujii) ain't too bad, either.
One last example of how good the music in Mega Man 5 is.
I think the weapons are better here than in 6, even if some of them like Charge Kick or Power Stone are a bit awkward to use.
Next up is Mega Man 4, my second favorite of the series.

This is my favorite track from Mega Man 5, again by Mari Yamaguchi. The bridge section really captures the sense of gravity changing. Overall, I think the soundtrack is stronger here than in 6, which is one reason I prefer 5.

"Mega Man, Rush, and a Gang of Three"
Caricature-like art of Mega Man and Rush, as well as Cut Man, Fire Man, and Guts Man, who evoke the Rock, Scissors, Paper motif of the series. Unlocked in the PlayStation Complete Works version of Rockman 5 after completing the Enemy Database.
I find this bouncy music, again by Mari Yamaguchi, to be really appropriate for Gyro Man's level. Here is the arranged version:

"Mega Man 5: Gyro Man's Stage"
Bonus art of Gyro Man's level, unlocked in Rockman 5 (PS1 Complete Works version), when beating the game on Easy in Original (Famicom) Mode.
Pictures from the game included for comparison.
It's a tradition that Mega Man games always have great music for their water levels, and this one is no exception. Arranged version in the PS1 version has a nice Caribbean sound.

"Mega Man 5: Wave Man's Stage"
Bonus art of Wave Man's level, unlocked in Rockman 5 (PS1 Complete Works version), when beating the game on Easy in Original (Famicom) Mode.
Pictures from the game included for comparison.
Mega Man 5's composer is Mari Yamaguchi. There are rumors Yoko Shimomura (from Kingdom Hearts and many other games) composed the Wily Stage theme. However, I haven't been able to confirm this.
Here is the arranged track:
"Mega Man 5: Wily's Castle"
A sketch of Dr. Wily's Castle, unlocked in Rockman 5 (PS1 Complete Works version), when beating the game on Easy in Original (Famicom) Mode.
For comparison, I've included pictures of it from the game and the manga.
"Mega Man 5: Proto Man's Castle"
A sketch of Blues' Castle, unlocked in Rockman 5 (PS1 Complete Works version), when beating the game on Easy in Original (Famicom) Mode.
For comparison, I've included pictures of it from the game and manga, where it's called a 要塞, or "stronghold."
Happy Days? Grease? No, Mega Man and Roll are having fun dancing together, in a 1950s or 1960s style. I don't know why, but I like it.
Bonus art unlocked in Rockman 5 (Complete Works), when beating the game on Hard in Original (aka Famicom) Mode. 🎮
Roll in "The Cool of the Evening"
Bonus art unlocked in Rockman 5 (Complete Works), when beating Navi/Arranged Mode on Hard (with its CD-quality soundtrack!).
Roll apparently enjoying a cool summer's evening outside, in traditional Japanese yukata attire.
Let's turn to the PlayStation Complete Works version of Mega Man 5. I rank this one above 6, due to the better level design. Fun elements such as the jet skiing segment, the gravity flipping, and collecting the plates for Beat add a lot of interest.
As I said, the music is not up there with previous games like Mega Man 2, but it's still good. This track from Mr. X's fortress is a real banger, especially in the arranged version. Unfortunately, the final fortress stages themselves are underwhelming.

Don't worry everyone, I caught Dr. Albert Ei--I mean, Dr. Albert Wily!
A bonus gallery image in Rockman 6 (Complete Works version on PS1), of the robot masters in the six NES games.
Unlocked when beating the game on Easy in Original Mode.
Not only are Mega Man and Proto Man present, but you can also see Bass!
"Rockman's Family: Before the Party"
Bonus art unlocked in Rockman 6 (Complete Works), when beating the game on Hard in Original (aka Famicom) Mode. 🎮
What kind of party are Dr. Light, Mega Man, Roll, and Rush going to? I don't know, but I'm glad they allow robot dogs. 🐶
"Roll-chan's Summer"
Bonus art unlocked in Rockman 6 (Complete Works), when beating Navi/Arranged Mode on Hard (this mode features a CD-quality soundtrack!).
Apparently, Roll enjoys swimming in the pool and eating popsicles during the summer--and also riding her bike alongside Rush!
This is my least favorite of the series on the Famicom. Story is predictable and the music, while good, is not up to earlier peak. I don't like how Beat is weaker. But it's still a good game. The Jet Adaptor adds some interesting platforming, sometimes enabling different routes.
