Trump was outraged by Bishop Budde’s remarks, and predictably so. Those vested with an abundance of worldly power should find the radical Christian message of mercy hard to hear, Elizabeth Bruenig writes:

It is rare than an opening sentence nails the issue at hand as well as this one from Elizabeth Brunig:
"When Donald Trump sat down Tuesday beneath the exquisite stained-glass windows of the National Cathedral, he likely expected a sermon that would reflect his earthly glory back to him."
👏👏👏
What the Bishop is doing is marvelous. The fact that it is now rightly regarded as evidence of high moral courage is a damming indictment of the MAGA movement and our society’s tacit acceptance of their cruelty and malice.
If he wanted a nice to him sermon, he should have pulled in some of his rich prosperity gospel preachers that have no qualms worshipping him rather than God.
She is a boss. After being tear gassed personally by trumps attacks to clear BLM protestors near her church In 2020 to take a bible photo op with a bible, she reiterate the sermon on the mount and now trump worshippers have been calling her vile.
Mercy & compassion will not be tolerated by the Maximum Leader & apparatchiks, & the authoritarian cult. These people are not actual New Testament Christians. They’re pseudo-Christian white nationalists with permission to hate. They would deport Jesus if he showed up.
Trump sent his troll Little Mike to attack the Bishop. Little Mike refused to believe the word "mercy" was in the Bible. Ephesians 2:4– “But God, who is rich in mercy..."
Clearly Christianity is a beard for Little Mike.
The Episcopal bishop's message has resonated far and wide, which explains why Trump threw that tantrum on social media yesterday. Right-wing evangelicals may buy his Elmer Gantry scam, but apparently many mainstream Christians do not.
If Jesus was walking the earth today, he'd be hanging out with the trans community, immigrants, the poor, the disenfranchised. Basically everything these so called Christians hate.
Trump and Vance’s smug sense of entitlement is familiar. I’ve seen the same derision and lack of compassion in the faces of Florida elected officials MANY times at public hearings where citizens plead to be heard above land speculators and developers who paid for land use zoning changes.
Trump wasn’t outraged because of mercy. He was outraged because someone scorned him defiantly to his face. He doesn’t care about mercy because he’s incapable of any empathy, like the psychopath he is.
Indeed. But, he said it about Bishop Edgar Bude. I changed the image to create a satirical tweet. In the facist world, the leader has unlimited arbitrary power.

Never mind that it isn't in Scripture, or that it represents an obscene perversion of the entire basis of Christianity.

You should hear what Jesus said.
