18F, a team in the General Services Administration, was tailor-made for government efficiency and technology, writes @matteowong.bsky.social. Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency wiped it out.

The federal government has many inefficiencies. Steps to address that would include moving from a prescriptive to a performance-based regulatory model, annual audits, beefing up the 18F team, and paying close attention to inspectors general. The Musk administration is doing none of that.
But please stay hopeful in the knowledge that they also burn themselves with such chaos - and the Dark MAGA Boy Blunder will face the underside of a bus soon enough.
“The next face of political evolution involves a grateful embrace of dictatorship and/or monarchy, so that the real forces running the world can get the job done without all the pointless and messy shadow play of mass consensus.”
I have been an internal consultant in a government department when external consultancy is hired in. First thing they did was contain the boss. Then they excluded competition (me). I survived by going underground. I could do this as I knew how the system really worked.
Anyone who has worked with a computer system knows you don’t mass fire your IT department. Elon and his flying monkeys canning every one working in systems that were in use when their monkey parents were in grade school is one of the stupidest things he has done to date. And he’s done plenty.
Maybe the goal is, literally, destruction. It's a political philosophy.
Maybe something like rewriting buggy code from scratch, only bigger. It costs more and takes longer than you expect. And all you get is another set of bugs.
Musk wants zero oversight over his numerous government subsidies and contracts, over his business shenanigans, or over his nauseating wealth. He is the fox in the chicken coop, public enemy number one, and yet there’s still a large cult of ignorants idolizing him. Your country is a complete failure.
Last defence against the DOGE has been dismantled. I’d bet with their knowledge, they could still track what these people are doing, the data they’re exploiting, the malware they’ve planted, what they’ve copied to take offline and all the other dirty tricks Musk will use to his benefit.

Seems like it would have been another slush fund for DC
