“Donald Trump is fond of saying that trade wars are easy to win,” writes William J. Bernstein. “Among the litany of patently false Trumpisms, this may well prove one of the most disastrous”:

Genuine question here. The President of the USA decides all by himself if and when he will start a trade war and how punitive the tariffs will be. No vote, no discussion...is that how a democracy works?
The U.S. Constitution gives Congress the authority to impose tariffs in Article 1, Section 8. But Congress can also selectively delegate tariff-setting authority to the president, which it has done for decades. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-tariffs-plan-congress/
From the article: As former Secretary of State Cordell Hull once put it, “A prohibitive protective tariff is a gun that recoils upon ourselves.” And that’s just the economic damage. Trade wars can, and do, evolve into shooting wars.“
FOTUS is threatening to activate tariffs tomorrow, same day as SOTU. Whadayaknow. He is trying to swamp the news cycle to keep resistance from breaking through. But we shall see. Tariffs are an objective loser. Economy is already shrinking. And just like mtg w Z, SOTU is going to go off the rails.
I’d rather see Dems like AOC do a watch party w running commentary on a popular alt platform like meidastouch. The rest of Dems show up & disrupt. Jeer, laugh, call out, stand up & turn their back, then finally all get up &walk out when he hits a certain topic.
Canada will win because we have finally learned America was not and is not a friend. We will look elsewhere for trade. Might take some time, but we will be better off in the long run.
Damaged stacked on top of damage. I heard someone say that trust us earned drip by drip. And it's lost by the bucket. The effects of this will last for years. The US is starting to feel like the Romans. To big to fail
When tariffs are imposed, they not only increase the cost of goods but create opportunities for graft. In systems lacking proper oversight, tariff exemptions become political currency—traded between firms and officials in what amounts to a pay-to-play arrangement. https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrew...
Most of Trump/GOP policies are built on lies/false narratives/misinformation. They flood the zone with lies and repeat them in hope you will accept them.
The basis of success of the damaging agenda is his ability to convince the public of his lies. Those thousands of lies MUST be confronted!

It’s as if Americans are brain damaged and have zero capacity for memory.
