But George, man. George was a real douche, y'know. Quite mad, I hear. And those pesky Redcoats, I mean, talk about unwelcome guests, they drop in, trash the place, throw shade all over - not exactly the best strategy for holding on to a bunch of independent-as-hell, rabble-rousing colonists.

George III wasn't an absolute monarch or anything, but he definitely tried to form cabinets that agreed with his opinions (which proved hard). George didn't personally design any of the policies the Patriot movement rebelled against. That was Parliament, and they were unpopular in Britain, too!

With the Redcoats, there is a theme of Parliament/the Crown demanding colonists not expand westward except with small trading posts. In part this was because deploying military to hold the frontier was ludicrously expensive/difficult. Expansion also undermined relations with native traders.

I can understand why the Patriot movement was pissed that they would be willing to deploy regulars to crush a rebellion but not to support local interests in expansion. I can also understand the Crown position entirely, and the 13 colonies weren't their main priority in any event.

You got me patriotic & emotional now. The way it was when I was a kid-Knowing for dang sure that we were the good guys! people in war zones saw our flag and ran to it for help. our country was the envy of the world. because we earned that reputation. Then we lost it in a span of months.
